6/1/2009 - DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- Children interested in aviation will be able to explore the forces of flight during a four-day Summer Camp July 13-16 here.

The 94th Services Squadron, in partnership with STARBASE (Science and Technology Academics Reinforcing Basic Aviation and Space Education), will host the Summer camp for rising 5th - 7th graders of Department of Defense employees. Employees include civilians, Active, Guard and Reserve personnel.

The camp will run each day from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Curriculum includes:

- Hands-on exploration of the forces of flight and aerodynamics
- Flight training in the Lockheed Martin Technology Lab, featuring flight simulation on the F-22 and C-130J aircraft
- Navigation training and instrument reading instruction
- Team problem solving exercises

Cost for the camp is $40 per child and will cover daily transportation around base, light breakfast, lunch and snacks. The camp will fill quickly, so parents are encouraged to register and pay for their children as soon as possible. Applicants are selected on a "first pay" basis until 30 students are registered for the camp.

Checks should be made payable to "Dobbins Services" and may be dropped off at the 94th SVS Marketing office in Building 727 on Dobbins Place Road.

If a child has participated in a previous STARBASE camp, they are not eligible to participate so that other students will have a chance to experience the camp.

Founded in 1990, STARBASE is a science, math and life skills reinforcement program sponsored by the Georgia National Guard at Dobbins ARB. The program is also sponsored nationwide by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs. The camp is a modified version of the formal program offered to students of the Cobb County and Marietta School Systems during the school year.

For more information, call Valeria Valerio, 94th SVS, at 678-655-5041 or Christine Englemann, program coordinator, at 678-655-5084.
