The Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) has announced a series of financial health seminars during Unit Training Assemblies this year.

The seminars will take place on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to Noon inside the Marietta Room of the Consolidated Club during the February, April, June and August UTAs.

According to Dobbins officials, the seminars were created to prevent members from losing security clearances, which would prevent them from re-enlisting, due to bad financial habits.

"We decided to put together these seminars to educate Airmen about financial responsibilities so it will not impact their careers," said Capt. Darrell Bogan, 94th Equal Opportunity, who is the HRDC Co-Chair. "People can't re-enlist because of poor financial management. A lot of people don't know how to manage credit or even where to pull up their credit report."

A 2008 Air Force study suggested that nearly one-third of enlisted servicemembers self-reported moderate to severe difficulty in paying their bills. Living month-to-month and struggling to pay bills, especially when sudden, unexpected expenses such as car trouble or legal problems arise, is not sound financial management. Poor financial choices, and the stress inflicted on Airmen and families, negatively affects the Total Force team, including the Air Force Reserves.

Members who attend the financial seminars will not only learn about managing their credit, but will also learn effective tax strategies as military members and how to manage a personal budget.

The mission of the HRDC is to provide members with the information they need to make informed, intelligent decisions regarding their career progression.
