During the opening ceremony everyone in SunTrust Park was encouraged to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States of America. A group of about 80 men and women from the Army, Georgia National Guard, Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve practiced unfurling the American Flag. After a few practices, the team was released to tour the ball park and to later enjoy a buffet while the teams warmed up. Tech. Sgt. Ken Russell, 94th Maintenance Squadron nondestructive inspection member, was able to use his military training to save a life on May 16, 2017. Russell was enjoying a meal in his hometown at a café in Morristown, Tennessee when he made a run to save a woman who had been struck by a school bus. He was able to use his military training to save a life on May 16, 2017 in Morristown, Tennessee. Russell made a run to save a woman who had been struck by a school bus.
