Celebrate Energy Action Week with trivia, prizes! Published Oct. 21, 2013 By James Branch 94th Airlift Wing Public Affairs DOBBINS AIR RESERVE BASE, Ga. -- October is Energy Action Month. It provides an opportunity for base personnel to take "ACTION" by learning more about the impact of energy to the Air Force's mission, and promoting energy and water conservation as part of a national campaign led by the Department of Energy. Dobbins Air Reserve Base's Energy Action Week kicks off today, and will continue thru Oct. 25. "To celebrate, we are offering a few fun trivia games and bright ideas to save our resources on the base and in our daily lives," said Paul Eskew, base resource efficiency manager. "Civil engineering members will deliver some (easy) energy saving ideas and trivia sheets to various buildings." "On Thursday, Oct. 24, we will be at the Dobbins Consolidated Club to provide conservation materials and draw for a $25 Base Exchange Gift Card," he added. "Lastly, on Friday, Oct. 25, we'll be at the Exchange from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. to offer further ideas for your home and work areas!" This year's theme, "I am Air Force Energy," puts Dobbins' members at the center of the campaign. "We want each member to play a part in helping Dobbins Air Reserve Base achieve its energy goals," said Hugh Phillips, base energy manager. A-C-T-I-O-N stands for Appliance reduction, Computer log off, Temperature control; Inform your facility manager; Outdoor conservation; and No waste. This year, the Air Force implemented an internal effort to have "energy champions" within every unit who will help distribute energy materials and encourage participation in installation energy initiatives. There will also be installation-wide competitions to drive members to be more efficient. "You can start conserving energy by paying attention to a few small areas in your work center," said Phillips. "Keep your windows closed. Ensure that your computer is logged off and goes into sleep mode when not in use, and always turn off your monitor before you leave each day." Please download the Energy Trivia Sheet to enter the $25 Base Exchange Gift Card drawing, and the energy poster to hang on your office bulletin board. Let's take ACTION!
