After nearly two years of negotiations, a new policy requiring Air Reserve Technicians to wear the military uniform while in civilian status takes effect July 6.  The policy is specifically for all ARTs represented by the Bargaining Unit (Union).

An agreement was reached after 20 months of negotiations between wing leadership and the American Federation of Government Employees Local 2069 Union.

"The Air Force Reserve plays a vital role within our Air Force," said Col. Heath Nuckolls, 94th Airlift Wing commander, in a memorandum released May 20. "As the Air Force mission transforms, so does the mission of the AFR. Our military and our nation are facing significant challenges and increasingly rely on the AFR for the experience and capability we bring to the fight."

The memorandum continues to state that ARTs who wear the military uniform regardless of civilian status, "exemplifies the significant contributions of the Air Force Reserve Command in the Total Force."

Additionally, leaders stress that the "wear of the military uniform is reflective that AFRC is an integral part of the Air Force, and a vital part of the Total Force."

Questions regarding civilian rules and requirements related to this policy change should be addressed to David Pritchard, 94th Civilian Personnel Flight. He can be reached at 678-655-5036 or David.Prtichard@Dobbins.af.mil.
