8/1/2012 - LAS VEGAS -- Two Dobbins Air Reserve Base Airmen are attending the 2012 Tuskegee Airman Conference from Aug. 1 to Aug. 3 in Las Vegas.

Staff Sgt. Dalia Nesmith and Staff Sgt. Candice Johnson, both of the 94th Airlift Wing, volunteered to represent Dobbins ARB and to learn more about diversity within the Air Force.

"We are here to learn about how the past's challenges with diversity have affected the present," said Nesmith. "This event has a lot of historical significance."

Nesmith and Johnson were able to listen and learn from some original members of the 332nd Fighter Group, also known as the Tuskegee Airmen, on the first day of the conference during a panel discussion of historical missions that the 332nd participated in during World War II.

"The Tuskegee Airmen were able to come together and be good wingmen for the bombers they escorted," said Johnson. "We all have a lot we can learn from them. This is such a great opportunity."
